BREAKING; Kemi Badenoch leader of UK Conservative Party fires back at Vice President Shettima

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK Conservative Party, has reaffirmed her earlier comments about Nigeria, despite backlash from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who accused her of disrespecting the country.

Badenoch, who was born in the UK but spent much of her childhood in Nigeria, has long spoken about how her experiences in the country were marked by fear and insecurity, influenced by its pervasive corruption.

She previously stated, “I grew up in Nigeria and witnessed firsthand the consequences of self-serving politicians who misuse public funds, polluting the political environment with their failure to serve the people. I saw the harsh realities of socialism, the poverty, and the shattered dreams. Coming to Britain was an opportunity to build my future in a place where hard work and integrity can lead to success.”

In response, Vice President Shettima criticized Badenoch, accusing her of belittling Nigeria. He pointed to Rishi Sunak, the UK Prime Minister of Indian descent, who has never spoken negatively about his roots, and suggested that Badenoch should change her name if she no longer identifies with her homeland.

When asked about Shettima’s remarks, Badenoch’s spokesperson made it clear that she stands by her words, emphasising that she has no interest in “doing PR for Nigeria.”

“She is the leader of the opposition, and she is very proud of her leadership of the opposition in this country.

“She tells the truth. She tells it like it is.She’s not going to couch her words, and she stands by what she says.”
