Police react to rumoured gunmen attack on Girls’ Secondary School

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged invasion at Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, describing the claims as entirely false and misleading.

The rumour, which circulated among students and was amplified online, suggested that gunshots had been fired, causing panic in the community.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, promptly deployed a patrol team led by DCO Kwale Division, SP Udofia Kufre, to verify the situation and assess security on the ground.

Interviews with the school’s Vice Principal and the security personnel on duty confirmed that no attack had occurred and that the panic stemmed solely from misinformation among students.

This was disclosed in a statement by Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command.

Adjoining schools in the Kwale area were also visited, and normal academic activities were confirmed. Parents who rushed to collect their children are advised to remain calm.

CP Abaniwonda cautioned the public against spreading unverified rumours that could incite fear or disrupt educational activities. He reiterated the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to responding swiftly to credible threats and ensuring the safety of all schools.

The police also called on school authorities to strengthen internal communication, promptly report suspicious activities, and collaborate with local security outfits to enhance monitoring around school environments.
