BREAKING; House Speaker resigns from office
Hyacinth Dajoh, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, has resigned from office.
Dajoh announced his decision in a letter addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly on Sunday.
“I write to resign my position as the speaker, Benue state house of assembly effective today, 24th August, 2025. This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state,” the letter reads.
“I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals. I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko west constituency,” he added.
His resignation comes just 48 hours after four lawmakers were suspended over an alleged plot to impeach him.
The affected members include Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
Reacting to the development, Governor Hyacinth Alia distanced himself from the controversy, insisting he had no role in the alleged move to unseat Dajoh.
