Bomb blast kills eight Residents, injures several others in suspected armed Men attack
At least eight people lost their lives on Saturday after a suspected Boko Haram-planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated along the Maiduguri–Damboa highway in Borno State.
The deadly explosion occurred around noon at Gidanka Kaji, approximately 30 kilometers from Damboa town.
According to a security source who spoke with Daily Trust, a Hummer bus ran over the hidden explosive, triggering a blast that completely destroyed the vehicle.
“All eight victims, including the driver, were killed instantly. Several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Maiduguri for treatment,” the source said.
The attack reportedly happened just moments after military personnel had conducted their routine clearance and road scan, which usually precedes civilian travel on the volatile route.
“This is the risk our men face daily, clearing these roads for safe passage. Just last week, we lost a soldier during a similar clearance mission near Gwoza,” the source added.
The District Head of Damboa, Lawan Maina, confirmed the incident, stating that all injured passengers had been evacuated and are currently receiving care at the State Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri.
Maina stated: “It is very saddened to inform you about the explosion that took place along Damboa-Maiduguri road this morning.”
“A driver of a hummer bus and seven passengers died at the spot, while many others sustained various degrees of injury.
“I want to appeal to the federal government and the security agencies to redouble their efforts in complementing Borno State Government’s support and cooperation to defeat Boko Haram terrorists in the North East sub region”.
