Army Captain kidnapped; Abductors demand N20m ransom

In what seems to be another bandit/abduction incident during the lockdown period, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have kidnapped an Army Captain along Auga/Akunnu highway in Akoko North-East Local Government of Ondo State.

According to a source, the Army Captain identified as D. Gana, was passing through the state on a trip from Abuja and he was abducted alongside three other people.

There have been numerous kidnap cases that have been reported about Auga/Akunnu highway in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state, which is the northern senatorial district of the state. Most of the crimes on the highway have however been linked to fulani herdsmen.

Another source disclosed that the gunmen did not touch anything in the vehicle after abducting the Army Captain but the doors of the vehicle were left opened on the highway after they carried out the operation.

The families of the victims have since been contacted by the kidnappers and it was reported that they were demanding for #20m ransom, for the release of the four victims in their custody.

The source added that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ikare Division deployed officers from the division to the venue, only for them to meet the abandoned vehicles on the highway, with the kidnappers gone into thin air with the abducted persons.

It was learnt that men of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure of the Nigerian Army mobilized men to the area to comb the bush to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.

Speaking on the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro said the incident happened along Auga/Akunnu road around 4am on Tuesday.

He added that the State Police Commissioner, Undie Addie, deployed detectives to search the entire Bush in a bid to rescue the abducted persons.
