Arms recovered as Police operatives arrest four high-profile suspects

No fewer than four suspected criminals have been arrested by police operatives in Enugu State in connection with recent criminalities in the state.

The operatives within the period recovered one AK-47 rifle with 51 live ammunition of 7.62mm calibre, three locally-fabricated Beretta pistols, one Pump Action gun, the butt of a locally-made gun, 31 live cartridges and other incriminating exhibits.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Thursday in Enugu that the suspects believed to be among criminals instilling fear in the residents were arrested between December 1 and December 6.

Ndukwe said that the feat was achieved by the current operational and crime-fighting measures put in place by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Ammani.

He said that the commissioner had tasked police operatives to sustain the tempo in ridding the state of unrepentant criminals, while calling on the residents to continue to assist the police with credible information.

The PPRO said that acting on credible information, police operatives serving in the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested Ifeanyi Ngene, 36, at Akwuke in the Awkunanaw axis of Enugu, on December 6 at about 9.30 a.m.

The police spokesman said that recovered from Ngene unlawful possession were one AK-47 rifle with 51 live ammunition of 7.62 calibre, one Pump Action gun with 25 live cartridges and two AK-47 rifle magazines.

According to him, also recovered from Ngene were one senior police officer’s cloth, three black military belts, two forest guards’ inscribed black berets and two walkie-talkies.

He said: “Also, Kenechi Ngwuenwo , 25, was arrested on Dec. 6 at about 4.40 p.m. by operatives serving in Central Police Station, while on stop-and-search duty on Enugu-Onitsha Road, by New Market Enugu.

“One cut-to-size locally-fabricated gun with six live cartridges was found in his unlawful possession.

“Similarly, police operatives serving in Police Mobile Force-3, while on intensified patrol along Ozalla-4-Corners-Udi Road on Dec. 1 at 11.25 a.m., intercepted and arrested Amaechi Precious, 25, in a Toyota Sienna commercial vehicle transiting from Abakaliki, Ebonyi to Awka, Anambra.

“Upon search conducted, three locally-fabricated Beretta pistols, one butt of a locally-made gun and other incriminating items were found in his unlawful possession.

“Consequent on further investigative actions, SWAT operatives of the Command, on Dec. 2, arrested Oforzoba Amandi, 26, at Anam in Anambra West LGA of Anambra, identified as the recipient of the firearms and a member of the criminal syndicate.”

Ndukwe noted that all the suspects would be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations were concluded on the respective matters.

Fake Medical Doctor sent to jail for allegedly removing womb causing Woman’s death

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 55-year-old fake doctor, Moyosore Johnson, in a correctional centre for allegedly causing the death of a woman.

Johnson, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on a four-count charge bothering on conspiracy and accelerating cause of death.

Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe did not take the plea of the defendant for lack of jurisdiction.

She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

Ayofe adjourned the case until March 27, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Segun Adegboye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 5, 2024, at about 10.00 a.m, at Apata Igbala Hospital Iseyin, Oyo State.

Adegboye alleged that the defendant unlawfully accelerated the cause of the death of one Badirat Adebayo, 26, by carrying out surgery on her.

He alleged that the defendant removed Adebayo’s womb, which led to her death.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.(NAN)

Group seeks support for military to capture Bello Turji, other Terrorists

The North-West Youths for Peace and Development (NWYPD), a non-governmental organisation, has called for the suppprt of the people in the region for the military in its renewed onslaught against Bello Turji and other terrorists in the region.

The Coordinator of the group, Salihu Bello, made the call while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

Bello also urged the people to show appreciation to the Armed Forces of Nigeria for its relentless efforts to tackle the activities of Bello and other bandits.

How Woman reportedly defiled Teenage Boy on several occasions in her apartment

Idris Mariam, 29, has been placed under detention by an Ogun State Magistrate Court in Ago-Iwoye for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old child (name withheld) at the Muslim High School Area of Ago-Iwoye.

Since December 23, 2024, Mariam has engaged in eight illegal sexual encounters with the survivor in her chamber.

Dyke Ogbonnaya, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun State command, signed the statement on Tuesday.

Ogbonnaya revealed that the survivor’s mother had informed the command about the occurrence.

He revealed that the defendant, who is facing charges under Section 32 of the Child Rights Law of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006, has been remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Ijebu-Ode for a period of 60 days.

Ogbonnaya said, ”The survivor, in the course of investigation, opened up that the defendant has been having these sexual assault with him since December 23, 2024 for successive eight times.

“After the completion of investigation, a motion for ex parte to remand the defendant at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ijebu-Ode, for 60 days was filed by the legal team of the State Command at Ago-Iwoye Magisterial Court.”

The NSCDC spokesperson confirmed that the court, under the presiding judge His Worship O.F. Adeduntan (Mrs.), granted the Corps’ request to remand the defendant.

Additionally, the case file has been sent to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) at the Ogun State Ministry of Justice in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for further legal guidance.

In a separate statement, the Corps State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, issued a firm warning against any form of indecent conduct or inhumane treatment, stressing that such actions will not be tolerated in Ogun State.
