Another Police Inspector arrested for killing Sergeant

Sequel to the arrest of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Theophilus Otobo and a Police Inspector, Oguntoba Olamigoke, over the death of a teenager, Tina Ezekwe, another Police Inspector, Monday Gabriel, has been arrested for the death of a Sergeant in Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

It was reported that the Police Inspector, who is attached to the Police Mobile Force Squadron 21 Abuja, was on special duty with his colleagues in a Federal Government facility in Ikoyi, before he started shooting sporadically, which claimed the life of Sergeant Felix Okago, while others escaped unhurt.

After having executed the deed, he took a van, in a bid to escape through the third Mainland bridge, and he kept shooting as he was trying to escape. However, he was successfully intercepted and handcuffed by Policemen from Bariga Division along Akoka.

When quizzed on the development, spokesperson Lagos state Police Command DSP Bala Elkana, disclosed that the Police received a distressed call around 4:30pm on Sunday, May 31, 2020, that Inspector Gabriel has killed a colleague while shooting sporadically.

Meanwhile, the rifle and vehicle were recovered. The corpse of the deceased Sergeant is deposited in the mortuary for autopsy while the Inspector is taken to Police Hospital for medical examination as he presented signs of mental depression”.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation to take over the investigation. The Command deeply condoles with the family of the fallen colleague who paid the supreme price in service to his fatherland.
