Amaechi’s wife reacts to Wike’s claim of collrcting N4 billion monthly from NDDC
Judith Amaechi, wife of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has denied allegations by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike that her non-governmental organisation, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), receives ₦4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Wike made the claim during a live TV interview, alleging that the organisation had longstanding financial arrangements with the NDDC and might have been named in the agency’s yet-to-be-published forensic audit report.
In a swift response on Tuesday, Mrs Amaechi, through her media aide Dike Bekwele, dismissed the claims as “false, unfounded, and politically motivated.”
She stated categorically that neither she nor ESI has ever received such funding from the NDDC.
“ESI has never received ₦4 billion from the NDDC—monthly or otherwise,” the statement read.
“The organisation, established in 2011, is a registered NGO focused on empowering women and youth through vocational and entrepreneurial training.”
Bekwele further explained that any past collaborations between ESI and the NDDC were governed by formal Memoranda of Understanding, focused solely on transparent, jointly funded empowerment projects across the Niger Delta.
He also rejected any insinuation of wrongdoing in the NDDC forensic audit report, describing such suggestions as “pure fabrication.”
According to him, ESI’s programmes have impacted thousands of lives and are subject to public accountability.
