ADC crisis deepens as another faction emerges moves to Convene Convention, rejects David Mark Coalition

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Dumebi Kachikwu has announced plans to convene a national convention and establish an interim leadership structure to steer the party through its protracted internal crisis.

The move was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by the faction’s spokesperson, Norman Obinna, following what he described as an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting attended by state chairmen and other party stakeholders.

Obinna said the decision was part of efforts to resolve lingering leadership disputes that have stalled the party’s progress, noting that a previously agreed roadmap had not been implemented.

“The key outcome of the ADR, which both parties signed, was that the ADC would inevitably go into a convention to produce new leadership. This has not been done for almost two years,” he said.

He accused the former national leadership under Ralph Nwosu of attempting to hand over control of the party to non-members, while allegedly sidelining duly elected state executives.

According to him, the faction had already approached the courts to challenge the legitimacy of those actions, even before the recent intervention by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Obinna further argued that with no functional National Working Committee in place since August 2022, the NEC remains the highest recognised authority within the party and is therefore empowered to take decisive action.

As part of its resolutions, the faction also distanced itself from a rival coalition reportedly involving prominent political figures, including David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Bolaji Abdullahi.
