Armed bandit shot dead, ak-47 recovered in encounter with Police operatives
A suspected bandit was killed on Monday during a shoot-out that broke out between the Policemen in Katsina State and some armed men.
The armed men suspected to be bandits had intended to attack the Magamar-Jibia community in Jibia Local Government Area of the State before they were repelled by the policemen, leading to the death of one of them.
This was disclosed by the state police command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah, in a statement in Katsina yesterday.
Isah said: “Today Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 at about 0430 hours, terrorists in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK47 rifles, attacked a police nipping point at Magama-Hirji junction, along Jibia-Katsina Road.
“The Policemen engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them,” he said.
He said that one of the terrorists was neutralised, and one AK47 rifle recovered with four magazines containing 90 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK47 rifles.
Isah added that money and other exhibits were also recovered.
According to him, many of the terrorists while two policemen also sustained injuries.
Isah revealed that the injured policemen were taken to Jibia hospital for treatment and had already been discharged.
He further said that search parties were still combing the area in a bid to arrest or recover more dead bodies of the terrorists.
