Father beats Daughter to death for calling Boyfriend with his phone
One Akaninyene Okokon has been arrested by the operatives of Ikot Ebo Divisional Headquarters for allegedly beating his 16-year old- daughter, Abasiono Akaninyene Sunday to death for using his sim card to call boyfriend.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, disclosed this on Friday while parading the suspect alongside 195 other suspects arrested by the command for various offences including kidnapping, theft, cultism and pipeline vandalism at the police headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo.
“On the 11th of December 2022, relying on credible information, operatives of Ikot Ebo Divisional Headquarters arrested one Akaninyene Sunday Okokon.
“He beat up his daughter, Abasiono Akaninyene Sunday (16), for using his SIM card to call her boyfriend until she fainted.
“The victim was rushed to a prayer house at Ikot Iya village, instead of being taken to a hospital.
While fielding questions from newsmen, Akaninyene Sunday Okokon who allegedly beat his daughter to death, said he could not have killed his daughter.
He said his daughter died from a stomach upset.
“I beat my daughter but she did not die when I stopped beating her.
“It was after I stopped beating her that her mother told me that she (my daughter) was having stomach upset,” he added.

The embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared himself the authentic Speaker of the House, saying he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.
Obasa made this known on Thursday after returning to the Assembly Complex under the protection of police and State Security Service operatives.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said.
It was his first time back since his removal on 13 January 2025.
Obasa arrived at the complex with more than 11 police officers and headed straight to the Speaker’s Office, ignoring his colleagues who were seen deliberating in the Assembly’s garden before his entrance.
His return follows a dramatic turn of events at the Assembly, where the security details of the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, were reportedly withdrawn.

The Sultanate Council has formally declared that the hunt for the new moon of Ramadan 1446AH will begin on Friday, February 28.
The Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, encouraged Muslims to look up at the sky on Friday in anticipation of the new moon in a statement issued Thursday.
He instructed those who spot the moon to report their sightings to the nearest District or Village Head.
Once reported, the sightings will be relayed to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who also serves as the President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, for a formal declaration.
