300 Police officers complete forensic, fraud investigation training

The Imo Police Command says that 300 officers have completed training in forensic and fraud investigations to boost institutional capacity and strengthen human capital development of the force.

The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

Okoye stated that the two-day training, which ended on Saturday, was part of the ongoing “transformative police reforms championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu”.

He added that the training was designed to “enhance officers’ knowledge of modern forensic techniques, intelligence-led investigation, and strategies for combating fraud, financial crimes, and other emerging threats.

“It also focused on improving evidence-based investigation and financial intelligence handling,” he further stated.

The PPRO explained that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Audu Bosso, who declared the training open, emphasised the importance of continuous training in improving operational efficiency and service delivery.

According to Okoye, the commissioner said that modern policing requires officers to be equipped with up-to-date investigative and forensic skills.

He further quoted Bosso as saying that the command remained committed to leveraging such training to improve service delivery and strengthen public trust.

The statement added that the commissioner thanked Disu, on behalf of officers and men of the command, “for his continuous support and commitment to capacity building.

“The CP also commended the Head of the delegation from Force Headquarters, Dr Pearl Ogbulu, for her contributions towards strengthening investigative capacity within the force,” it stated.

It also quoted Ogbulu to have also commended Disu in her remark “for prioritising capacity development of personnel in the force”.

She urged participants to maximise the outcome of the training and strengthen their professional and ethical standards.

Okoye added that the training featured lectures on Anti-Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit collaboration, focusing on detection of illicit financial flows and inter-agency coordination.

“It also focused on conducting financial investigations, with emphasis on investigative procedures, evidence handling, and best practices in financial crime cases,” he stated. (NAN)

Governor approves N20,000 Sallah celebration package for Civil Servants

Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved N20,000 Eid-el-Kabir goodwill package for civil servants in the state and across its 44 local government areas.
The approval is announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano by Musa Tanko-Muhammad, Press Secretary to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
According to the statement, the gesture is aims at supporting workers ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the generosity comes shortly after the payment of May salaries to state and local government workers.
The statement added that the intervention would cover civil servants on Grade Levels 01 to 14 in state ministries, departments, agencies, and local government councils across Kano.
It quoted Gov. Yusuf as saying that the the initiative reflected his administration’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of workers, whom he described as the backbone of the public service in the state.
He explained that the decision was informed by current economic realities and the financial demands associated with festive periods.
The support, he added, would help workers celebrate Eid with comfort and renewed hope alongside their families.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue implementing people-oriented policies to improve workers’ welfare, boost productivity, and sustain an efficient public service.
He also extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to civil servants and all residents of Kano State, while praying for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the nation.

Ex-IG of Police resigns from APC gives reasons

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu was an aspirant in the recently concluded governorship primary of the APC in the state.

The former IGP resigned from APC on Monday in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the party in Makama Electoral Ward of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.

“Today, I address my letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.

“This decision was not taken lightly, however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary in the state has made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the APC” he stated.

He particularly decried absence of internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants during the party’s governorship primary.

“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members were supposed to guide the affairs of any democratic political party.

“Unfortunately, the events surrounding the primary did not reflect this principle and have made me to lose confidence in the party’s leadership in the state.

“After wide consultations with my supporters, political associates and family members, I have decided to withdraw my membership of the APC to pursue my political aspirations through another platform.

“Kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation from the party,” he said.

Adamu appreciated the party for the opportunity serve and contribute to its growth while he was a member.

He also thanked members of the APC at various levels for the cooperation and support while he was still a member.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Adamu, however, did not state his next political destination.(NAN).

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community in observing the sacred occasion.
