Iran missiles destroy $700 million US spy plane as Middle East war rages on

Iran has struck a United States Air Force plane, valued at $700 million, at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

The attack which occurred on Saturday, destroyed a US E-3 AWACS and injured 12 US soldiers.

DAILY POST reports that the E-3 AWACS is a flying radar and airborne command hub tracking threats and directing US air operations.

According to Fox News, two of the injured Americans were listed in serious condition, while the rest were considered lightly injured.

Fox News reports that at least one KC135 air refueling plane was hit and reportedly caught fire as a result of the strike on Saturday.

It added that a regional source said the attack involved both Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.

The war between the United States and Iran which resulted in the killing of the Iranian Supreme Leader and others, has lasted a month.

Images circulating on social media appear to show significant damage to a U.S. Air Force E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft following an Iranian strike on a base in Saudi Arabia, though U.S. officials have not confirmed their authenticity.

The strike targeted Prince Sultan Air Base two days ago, wounding 15 American soldiers, including five seriously.

The images, shared by journalists from Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, appear to show heavy damage to the aircraft’s radar section, with the radar dome seen collapsed on the ground. The tail markings in the images match those of an E-3 Sentry, a key airborne warning and control system used by the U.S. military.

The aircraft, often described as the “eyes” of U.S. forces in the region, is used to detect and track missiles, drones and aircraft over long distances while providing real-time battlefield coordination
