JUST IN; Irannian Govt reveals health status of its new Supreme Leader amid US claim he is wounded, disfigured
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has dismissed concerns about the condition of the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following reports from United States officials that he was wounded during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Speaking during an interview with MS NOW’s Ayman Mohyeldin on Saturday, Araghchi insisted that the new leader remains capable of carrying out his responsibilities.
“there is no problem with the new supreme leader. He sent his message yesterday, and he will perform his duties,” the minister said.
The remarks followed a statement by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Friday, in which he said he believed Mojtaba Khamenei had been injured during the conflict.
Hegseth said the Iranian leader, who assumed power after his father was killed in an airstrike at the start of the war, “is wounded and likely disfigured.”
Iranian authorities had earlier acknowledged that the new supreme leader sustained injuries but have not disclosed further details about his condition.
Khamenei, 56, has not appeared publicly since the airstrike that killed his father and predecessor as supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several members of the family.
However, he issued a written message on Thursday in which he confirmed the loss of close relatives during the attack.
In the statement, the Iranian leader said his wife, sister, her child and his brother-in-law were among those killed.
He also vowed retaliation over the deaths linked to the conflict with the United States and Israel.
The message further warned that Iran could disrupt regional stability by tightening control over oil supplies and mobilising allied groups across the Middle East.
