Angry Mob attack Police officer over hard drugs
While delivering confiscated hard narcotics to a local police station, a police officer in Plateau State’s Jos North Local Government Area was severely injured in a mob attack.
Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of local law enforcement officers in the wake of the early Saturday morning incident at Polo Roundabout.
After two policemen from the Nigeria Police Force’s “C” Division tried to apprehend a suspect who was discovered in possession of a cache of hard drugs, the attack took place.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the event on his official X account, the suspect fled upon noticing the police, abandoning a bag filled with hard drugs and substances believed to be Indian hemp. The suspect then ran into the Jenta Adamu area of Jos North.
However, the situation took a violent turn when the suspect returned with a group of motorcycle riders, launching a vicious attack on the officers as they were en route to the station with the confiscated drugs.
During the chaos, one of the officers, Inspector Ikale Muhammed, was severely injured in the assault. He was quickly rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment.
A Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was found at the scene of the attack, and police reinforcements were swiftly deployed to restore order.
Authorities are now working to track down those responsible for the violent assault.
In a statement in Benin on Tuesday, the command’s Spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, said the incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when armed men stormed the church and kidnapped Rev. Father Philip Ekeli and Seminarian Peter Andrew.
According to him, a swift response by the police, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters under Operation Rescue, led to a gun battle with the attackers.
“One of the suspects, whose identity remains unknown, was neutralised during the operation, and his corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital, Agenebode,” Yamu stated.
Yamu noted that items recovered from the suspect included a Tecno button phone with two SIM cards, a power bank, a dagger jacket, a bag containing biscuits and Nescafé beverage, and the sum of N168,850.
The police spokesperson asserted that four suspects, names withheld, were arrested during the operation.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, had ordered reinforcements from the anti-kidnapping unit and Police Mobile Force, working alongside the military, to secure the victims’ unconditional release and capture the remaining abductors.
Yamu urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing rescue efforts. (NAN)

Obey 48 hours ultimatum issued by Lawmakers to re-present 2025 budget- Group advices Fubara
The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM), an interest group, has called on Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers to comply with the 48-hour ultimatum to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly.
Johnson Georgewill, the Director General of the group, told journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that the ultimatum issued by the State House of Assembly was in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, the Supreme Court directed Fubara to re-present the Appropriation Bill to the duly recognised legislature led by Martin Amaewhule.
The apex court also barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing funds to the state government until the budget was properly re-submitted to the House.
Georgewill urged Fubara not to defy the ultimatum, since failure to comply with would constitute grounds for impeachment.
He advised the 10th Rivers Assembly House of Assembly not to hesitate to initiate impeachment proceedings if Fubara failed to re-present the budget within the 48 hours deadline.
He alleged that the budget (presented before the Oko Jumbo-led factional House) lacked substance in terms of proper budgetary presentation, saying that the governor must re-submit the budget.
Georgewill criticised the governor’s decision to proceed with a 10-day series of project inaugurations across the state.
He described the decision as illegal, provocative and a clear indication that the governor has chosen to defy valid court rulings.
“We, therefore, question the source of funding for these 10-day project inaugurations, given that both the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Bills have been declared illegal,” Georgewill stated.
He urged the Amaewhule-led Assembly and the Nigerian Police to take decisive action to uphold democracy in Rivers.
He also called on lawmakers to ensure that all illegal appointments, non-budgetary expenditures, and government operations cease until a legitimate appropriation bill was presented before the House.
Georgewill urged leaders across the state, including the clergy, politicians, opinion leaders, and traditional rulers, to speak the truth and advise the governor to uphold democratic principles.
“We backed former governor Nyesom Wike in ensuring Fubara emerged as governor against all odds.
“Therefore, we firmly oppose all forms of betrayal and illegal actions by the state government because truth and justice will always prevail over illegalities,” he stressed.
Georgewill also congratulated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the 27 lawmakers on their victory at the Supreme Court. (NAN)

BREAKING; 16 Persons burnt to death in Expressway ghastly road accident
No fewer than 16 persons were reportedly burnt to death in a lone accident involving a Mazda bus at Buhari Estate axis on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway on Tuesday.
Mrs Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta.
Okpe explained that the accident which occurred at about 1:00p.m, involved a Mazda bus marked KJA 949 YJ.
The FRSC spokesperson said that the accident was caused by fire outbreak in the vehicle, explaining that the vehicle was also having a filled gas cylinder in it, which led to explosion.
She added that 21 people were involved in the accident, 16 died with three sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
“The genders of the victims could not be ascertained at the scene because they were burnt beyond recognition.
“A total of 16 people were killed in the crash while three sustained varying degrees of injuries,” she said.
Okpe added that the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, while the corpses were still at the scene waiting for evacuation.
“The Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, quickly moved to the crash scene with his team for rescue operation but he was not pleased with the occurrence.
“The driver should have objected to carrying a cylinder filled with gas,” she said.
She advised motorists that highly flammable items should be transported with care and by designated vehicles driven by trained drivers only.
Okpe urged motorists and passengers to always put safety first while on the roads. (NAN)
