Gun shots as Policemen, NDLEA operatives clash over arrest of suspected Drug Dealer
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Policemen at the Ekeki Police Division clashed over attempts to arrest a suspected drug dealer.
The clash caused panic and pandemonium at the Ekeki Police Division in Yenagoa as the confrontation ensued between the Police and the NDLEA.
It was learnt that some NDLEA operatives were in the area to arrest a woman suspected to be a drug peddler and had even made entry in the police records before carrying out their assignment.
A resident at Ekeki told a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent that as the NDLEA squad were carrying out their operation, the policemen from the Ekeki Police Division obstructed the NDLEA operatives and it resulted to an altercation.
In the resulting confrontation, several gunshots were fired which scared residents.
NAN sighted two operating vehicles of the NDLEA with deflated tyres by gunshots in the process by the police to prevent the NDLEA operatives from taking the suspect away.
When contacted, NDLEA spokesman, Mr Howells Obah, said that the operatives of the agency complied with standard operational procedure in carrying out the raid on the suspected drug dealer.
“Our men went for operation behind Ekeki Police Division. Our men made an entry in the police station as required but we learnt the suspect is a wife of a Policeman and enjoyed protection.
“They shot two of our vehicles and we are trying to see how we can take them out, and we are making efforts to keep the situation from escalating further.” Obah said.
DSP Musa Mohammed, the Bayelsa Police command Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident and said he was hurrying to the scene to find out what happened.
“I am going there now to find out what happened,” Mohammed said by phone. (NAN)

Earlier, the Chairman of the market, Alhaji Rilwanu Bello, described the disaster as catastrophic, confirming significant losses.
Bello said that local emergency teams struggled to contain the fire.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fire, which broke out around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, destroyed over 500 shops.(NAN)

Former Minister allegedly approved contract for Son-in-law’s firm– witness opens up in 2.8b fraud case
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday heard how former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika approved contracts to a company – Al Buraq Global Investment Limited – in which his daughter, Fatima, and son-in-law, Jalal Sule Hamma, have interests.
A former Director of Procurement in the ministry, Musa Odiniyan, said this while testifying as the fifth prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Sirika, Fatima, Jalal, and Al Buraq Global on a six-count charge bordering on corrupt practices.
In the charge, the prosecution alleged, among others, that Sirika used his “position to confer unfair advantage upon Al Buraq Global Investment Limited, whose alter ego, Fatima Hadi Sirika and Jalal Sule Hamma, are your daughter and son-in-law, respectively, by using your position to influence the award to them, the contract for the Apron Extension at Katsina Airport for the sum of N1,498,300,750”.
Fatima is said to be a staff member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, while Jalal Sule Hamma is described as an employee of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
During his cross-examination yesterday by Sirika’s lawyer, Michael Numa (SAN), Odiniyan insisted that for a contract to be executed, the minister must have approved it.
When asked about the role of the minister in the award of contracts, the witness said the former minister gave the final approval before the implementation of the contracts approved by the Ministerial Tenders Board (MTB).

Nigerian Governor slams FCT Minister Wike, calls him incoherent, transactional politician
Governor of Bauchi State Bala Mohammed has attacked the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Woke over a media chat in which purportedly took a swipe at the Bauchi State governor and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a press statement made available to Vanguard by his Media Adviser, Muhktar Gidado, he said that Wike thrives on drama and divisiveness.
“The attention of Sen. Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, has been drawn to the latest disjointed and bombastic media chat by Chief Nyesom Wike, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
‘We aren’t just a band of blind musicians; we have journalists, teachers and computer…0:00 / 0:00
“In his characteristic style, Chief Wike launched into his now-predictable tirade, marked by contradictions, grandstanding, and a perplexing display of loyalty that seems to shift with the wind.
“While Wike’s incoherence often makes it difficult to discern any substantive points, Sen. Bala Mohammed finds it necessary to respond to a few specific remarks that distort facts and aim to undermine the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—the very platform that gave Wike his political rise.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” he said in the statement.
The governor lamented that Wike “who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration.
“His recent media outburst was yet another reminder of his transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition eclipses loyalty, principles, and collective interests.
“Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, Sen. Bala Mohammed has always understood that politics is not a game of self-serving theatrics but a platform to serve the public good.
“Wike’s erratic behavior and opportunistic alliances expose him as an unreliable and fair-weather friend—traits that alienate even those who once stood by him.
