37 year old Man arrested for defiling Neighbour’s eight-year-old Daughter

37 years old Emmanuel Ighoruemu, has allegedly raped his neighbour’s eight year old daughter in Egbo community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspect was apprehended thanks to the dedicated efforts of human rights activist Comrade Kelvin Ejumudo.

He is now being held at the Otu-Jeremi Division Police Station, where he has admitted to the crime.

In his statement, he claimed that the illicit act occurred only once with the young girl.

Medical reports reveal that the young girl is suffering from a warts infection, along with a broken hymen and a ruptured vulva.

She is currently receiving medical care at a hospital, the location of which has not been disclosed.

According to reports, Ighoruemu forcefully raped the minor when her parents left her in the custody of another neighbour while she travelled.

He was said to have deceived girl to his bedroom, and after defiling her offered her N500 which she refused and further threatened to murder her if she tells anyone.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Comrade Kelvin Ejumudo announced that the suspect is set to be charged in court on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

While noting that cases of defilement is on the high side in Delta State, Ejumudo called on the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and the Commissioner for Women Affairs to urgently enhance town hall awareness campaigns addressing rape and defilement in the state.

He also advocated for the introduction of harsher penalties for rapists.

“We must get rid of such personalities in our communities because they pose a great danger to the girl child and society at large.”
