25 Suspects arrested by Security operatives over alleged same-sex marriage
The Kano State Hisbah Board has intercepted an alleged attempt to conduct a same-sex marriage ceremony in the state capital, arresting 25 people linked to the event.
The suspects, comprising 18 men and seven women, were apprehended on Saturday night at an event centre along Hotoro Bypass in Tarauni Local Government Area following an intelligence report.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, said operatives acted swiftly after receiving credible information from a concerned resident that one Abubakar Idris was allegedly planning to marry another man.
He said Hisbah officers stormed the venue and found a party underway under dim lighting conditions, which they later confirmed was connected to the alleged same-sex marriage.
“Upon arrival, our operatives discovered a gathering of young men and women, some of whom were dressed inappropriately, and appeared to be participating in a marriage ceremony,” Dr. Mujahid stated.
He explained that the 25 suspects were immediately taken into custody and are being interrogated. They will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Deputy Commander General urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and instill sound moral values, warning that the agency will not tolerate actions contrary to the moral and religious values of Kano State.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to Hisbah or other relevant authorities.
Dr. Mujahid reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to upholding Islamic moral standards and preserving the state’s reputation for discipline and righteousness.
“Our mission remains to promote decency, moral conduct, and adherence to Islamic principles across the state,” he added.
