17 thugs protesting at Emir’s Palace arrested by Police amid Emirate tussle in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 17 individuals suspected of planning a violent protest at Nassarawa Palace, the residence of Aminu Ado Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano.

This development comes amid the ongoing power struggle over the emirship of Kano, which has persisted for several months. In May 2024, a Kano High Court ruled to bar Bayero from presenting himself as the Emir of Kano, following the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II to the position.

Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, issued a stern warning to residents on Wednesday, urging them to abandon the planned protest.

Kiyawa stressed that robust security measures had been deployed to maintain order and prevent any disturbances.

“The police command strongly warns all individuals and groups against engaging in any unlawful assemblies, processions, or violent acts. Any attempts to do so will be met with a swift and decisive response,” Kiyawa stated.

The police spokesperson revealed that, based on credible intelligence, security forces had been mobilized in collaboration with other agencies to key locations across Kano Metropolis to thwart the planned protest and ensure public safety.

Authorities are determined to prevent any breach of the peace in the state, maintaining a firm stance against any illegal actions.
