Alleged Civilian bombing: We closed Jilli markets5 years ago says Governor Zulum
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has cautioned residents against aiding or providing any form of support to Boko Haram insurgents, following recent military operations in the state.
The warning comes in the wake of an airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in Jilli, a border community between Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State and Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, on April 11, 2026.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor described Jilli Market as a known hub allegedly exploited by insurgents and their logistics networks.
“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli Market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states. Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago,” Zulum said.
He disclosed that the state government is working closely with the Yobe State Government and military authorities to address the situation.
Zulum noted that his administration maintains strict coordination with security agencies before approving the resettlement of communities or reopening markets, especially in areas affected by insurgency.
Reaffirming his commitment to restoring peace, the governor stressed the need for collective responsibility in tackling insecurity, urging residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing operations with credible intelligence.
He warned that individuals found aiding insurgents, whether through shelter, supplies, or information, would be treated as collaborators in the ongoing conflict.
