‘Wike lule’ — Obaigbena, Tambuwal mock Rivers governor at function

Founder of THISDAY and Arise TV, Nduka Obaigbena, has mocked Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, for losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Obaigbena made the mockery when he hosted some guests at the funeral of his mother, Margaret Obaigbena in Owa-Onyibu, Delta state on Saturday.

The Arise TV chairman during the taunting described Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, as Nigeria’s “future president”, but said “Wike lule”.

It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, popularised the Yoruba word “Lule”, which means means “fallen or failed” months back during his public outburst at Abeokuta, Ogun State where he said it was his turn to become Nigeria’s president (Emi lo kan).

But while making reference to the word on Saturday, the ThisDay chairman said: “Chairman of PDP governors forum, Tambuwal! Presidential candidate, Tambuwal! Wike ‘lule’, Tambuwal! Wike ‘lule’, Tambuwal! Wike ‘lule’, Tambuwal! Future president, Tambuwal!,” Obaigbena joked.

It is record that the PDP has been enmeshed in a prolonged crisis since Atiku was announced the winner of its presidential primary election held in May having defeated other contestants including Wike to clinch the ticket.

The outcome of the presidential primary has since been publicly criticised by Wike and his camp, who alleged the Rivers governor was betrayed by other contestants including Tambuwal, who withdrew from the race and asked his supporters to support the former vice-president.

The crisis turn took another twist when Atiku went ahead to pick Delta State governor as his running mate instead of Wike who came second at the presidential primary.

Some of the party’s stakeholders claimed that Atiku ignored Wike, who they said, was preferred by a majority of the national working committee (NWC) members as the candidate for the position.

Despite meetings that have been held, Atiku and Wike are yet to broker a truce.
