Wike clarifies support for 27 Rivers Lawmakers, denies interference with Fubara’s impeachment

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly stated that he has no intention of obstructing the constitutional duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Wike, who is known for his strong influence in the state’s political landscape, assured the public that the legislative body is free to carry out its functions, including holding the governor accountable if necessary.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, currently embroiled in tensions with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has seen a group of around 27 lawmakers asserting their loyalty to Wike.

Recently, the lawmakers, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, celebrated a significant victory at the Supreme Court.

The court ruled in their favor, ordering the assembly members to resume their legislative duties, a decision that has further fueled political dynamics in the state.

As part of the court’s directive, Governor Fubara was also instructed to re-present the 2025 state budget to the full House and to initiate local council elections once again.

These developments have sparked widespread speculation that the majority of the assembly members may be positioning themselves to seek the governor’s impeachment, though Wike has distanced himself from any involvement in such a move.

“I’m not going to stop the Assembly from performing their constitutional duties. People who love peace don’t threaten people,” Wike told a large number of Kalabari people on Saturday.

“Assembly must do their work, whatever they deem necessary and fit, that it is constitutional, they should do.

“Let them tell me what initiative they have put on the ground. It is not to abuse us. You can abuse me as much as you want; I never bother myself. abuse Dey kill anybody?

“You don seen who abuse don kill? What is important is the result. Na who get high blood pressure now; no be them?”
