Wife watches helplessly as gunmen murder Lecturer in his apartment

Yohanna Bzegu, a lecturer at Adamawa State Polytechnic in Yola, was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday by unidentified gunmen.

Bzegu, a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Adamawa State Polytechnic in Yola, was assassinated in his home at Bajabure, behind Anglican Junior Seminary, a satellite town on the outskirts of Yola, the state capital.

According to a family member, the assailants shot the deceased in the chest and watched as he died.

His wife was said to have stood helplessly by as the assailants broke into the house.


According to the source, the attackers broke into the late lecturer’s house around 3 a.m., and this was said to have been their fifth attempt on his residence.

He explained, “They fired shots through the window; later they broke the door and shot him in the chest until they confirmed he was dead.”

While confirming the incident, Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, stated that Sikiru Akande, the commissioner of Police, directed for an immediate investigation in order to apprehend the perpetrators.

He issued the order while visiting the deceased’s home.

Not long ago, suspected gunmen attacked the home of Daniel Umaru, a pastor with Ekklesiyya Yan’uwa, killing the cleric’s two teenage sons.

While Umaru survived, the attackers fled with his 13-year-old daughter.

The teenage daughter, on the other hand, had been released after the bandits were paid an undisclosed amount of ransom.
