Why petrol price should have dropped by Atiku

Former vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that deregulation should have resulted in a drop in fuel price given the fact that the price of crude oil itself has come down from where it was in 2019.

Atiku who was also the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election said even in the US and Europe, prices of the commodity are far lower than that of Nigeria.

He disclosed this in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, September 8.

“I am a businessman. I look at things from an economic perspective. Questions beg answers. The price of crude is down from where it was in 2019. In the US and Europe, fuel prices are far lower than they were in 2019. If we truly deregulated, shouldn’t fuel price have dropped?,” Atiku wrote.

Recall that the Nigerian government through the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) had announced a new ex-depot price of N151.56 for petrol.

The new price did not settle well with a lot of Nigerians, with many going on social media, such as twitter and Facebook to air their grievances about the President Buhari’s administration.
