Two persons shot dead as Amotekun operatives engage suspected kidnappers in gun battle

Operatives of the western security team otherwise known as Amotekun on Friday, July 30, killed 2 suspected kidnappers during a fierce gun battle in IwereIle community, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the kidnappers numbering about 5, stormed the village on Friday afternoon, and tried to kidnap some villagers.

However, the residents made a distress call to Amotekun security team, who swiftly mobilized themselves and arrived the community just in time to rescue the residents in distress.

It was learnt that the kidnappers, who according to sources were fulani, sighted the security team, opened fire on them. The operatives also returns fire.

After the gun battle that lasted for about 5 minutes, it was discovered that 2 of the kidnappers were shot dead, while the remaining 3 fled into the bush with bullet wounds.


It was further gathered that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in the area later stormed the scene and evacuated the corpses of the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Fadeyi Olugbenga, when contacted by Journalists, confirmed the incident.

He said that efforts are ongoing to apprehended the rest of the gang who are currently on the run.
