Come and see things for yourself –NNPC invites Obasanjo to tour rehabilitated refineries over recent comments
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has formally invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tour the Port Harcourt Refinery, following his recent comments about its operational status.
The invitation comes after Obasanjo’s interview with Channels Television, where he shared concerns raised by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
According to Obasanjo, SPDC, which had been approached for a potential equity stake in the refinery, warned that corruption could hamper its effective operation.
Obasanjo also accused NNPCL of misleading the Nigerian public regarding the refinery’s actual functionality.
In response, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, issued a formal invitation to the former president, urging him to visit the refinery and verify its status firsthand.
Soneye emphasised the company’s commitment to transparency, stating that NNPCL remains open to scrutiny and is dedicated to providing accurate information about the facility’s operations.
Soneye said: “Furthermore, we extend an open invitation to President Obasanjo for a tour of the rehabilitated refineries to witness firsthand the progress made under the new NNPC Limited.”
Soneye also extended an invitation to Obasanjo to join NNPCL in its efforts to ensure the country’s energy security.
“We invite our esteemed former president to join us in this effort as we continue to deliver energy security for our nation and provide tangible benefits to Nigerians.
“His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and we assure him that his advice will always be welcomed and appreciated.
“As part of this transformation, NNPC Limited has gone beyond oil and gas to become an integrated energy company.
“One of our notable achievements is the complete rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PhRC) and Warri Refinery
“This process was not merely the Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) of the past but a full-scale overhaul designed to meet world-class standards. Similarly, we are currently conducting the same comprehensive rehabilitation of the old Port Harcourt Refinery and Kaduna Refinery.”
