Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, has disclosed that he personally constructed a lavish mansion for his one-time political ally, Peter Odili, a former governor of the state.

This revelation comes amid growing tension between the two, who were once close collaborators but now find themselves at odds.

Wike made the statement on Sunday during a Special Thanksgiving Service hosted by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, in Port Harcourt.

The FCT Minister’s comments were in response to recent remarks by Odili, who accused Wike of attempting to turn Rivers State into his personal domain.

While reflecting on his tenure as governor, Wike revealed that he personally reached out to Julius Berger, the renowned construction company, to build a mansion for Odili.

He recounted how Odili once proudly showed visitors around the mansion, openly praising Wike for the generosity and affection he had received.

“He was inviting everyone to the house, saying, ‘Come and see what Wike has done for me. Wike has shown me love,’” Wike said.

However, the political relationship between the two has soured over time.

Wike, who is known for his outspoken nature, also took aim at Odili’s recent comments regarding the performance of the current Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike expressed disbelief at Odili’s praise of Fubara, who has been in office for less than a year.

“The governor that all of us made has not even spent one year in office, yet Odili is already claiming that he has surpassed the records of all previous governors of Rivers State,” Wike remarked.

“You spent eight years as governor, and someone who hasn’t even completed one year in office has supposedly outdone you. Is that what an elder statesman should be known for?”

In a further sign of the growing estrangement, Wike disclosed that during his time as governor, his picture could be found everywhere in Odili’s home—hung in the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and even the toilet.

“But today, all those pictures have been removed,” he added, suggesting that the once-close bond between the two has deteriorated significantly.

Wike’s comments highlight the deepening rift between him and Odili, two figures who have shaped the political landscape of Rivers State for years.
