Three shot dead as armed robbers engage Soldiers, Police operatives in gun duel

In a dramatic turn of events, at least three people lost their lives following a fierce gun duel between a notorious gang of armed robbers and a joint security operation involving the Nigeria Police and the military in Abuja.

The incident, which occurred late Wednesday night, began with a distress call made to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division at approximately 11:50 PM, reporting a violent robbery unfolding in Filin-Dabo village.

Reacting swiftly, the DPO immediately mobilized resources, alerting the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The operation rapidly escalated, with reinforcements from the 102 Battalion, Guards Brigade, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilante groups dispatched to the scene.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the deadly encounter, which resulted in multiple fatalities.

“Upon spotting the joint security team, the six-member gang attempted to flee into nearby bushes, launching an ambush on the operatives.
“However, the security personnel responded with superior firepower, engaging the criminals in a fierce exchange.

“Despite their attempts to escape, the suspects were subdued. The suspect who sustained various degrees of bullet wounds was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital where three of them were confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty, while the other three sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention”, the statement added.

The Police Public Relations Officer further revealed that the team seized several dangerous weapons during the operation, including an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, nineteen rounds of 7.62 ammunition, two locally made pistols, and two knives.

Additionally, they recovered a taser, a mobile phone, various charms, and dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
