Thirteen [13] women on their way to a wedding ceremony abducted by suspected gunmen

No fewer than 13 women have been abducted by armed men suspected to be bandits
between Manini and Udawa town along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway, on their way to a wedding ceremony.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at about 12pm at noon.

It was learnt that the bandits
intercepted the 3 vehicles conveying the women on their way to Birnin Gwari. It was said that when the bus stopped, the men fired some shots in the air in an attempt to scare them.

Among those abducted, it was learnt, were a mother with 5 daughters, a 7 years old boy and several other nursing mothers.

Speaking on the kidnap incident, a community leader identified as Muhammed Umar, disclosed that the women were all from Udawa town in Chikun Local Government Area.


He said, “All the 13 women, majority housewives, were from Udawa on their way to Birnin Gwari to attend a wedding.”

“Some of the women are from the same family, like Zainab Abu Jibril the senior wife of Malam Jibril Ibrahim and her five daughters were all abducted alongside others from other families with their infants.”

According to him, some Soldiers were alerted when the operation was taking place, however, before the troops arrived, the bandits had already fled into the bush with their captives.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Jalige Mohammed, when contacted by newsmen said he has not been briefed on the incident, he however, promised to get the full details from other Police formations in the state.
