‘They left him and ran away’,-Police clear air on payment of ransom before Commissioner was released

The Nasarawa State Police Command has said abductors of Mr. Yakubu Lawal-Addah, the State Commissioner of Information, was released after pressure.

Lawal-Addah was abducted after gunmen invaded his residence on Monday night and whisked him away.

The unfortunate incident which happened in the Nasarawa Eggon, the headquarters of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state, had sparked tension.

Confirming the commissioner’s release on Friday evening, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the commissioner was released at about 6:pm at Tawa-Gali area around Mada station in Nasarawa Eggon LGA.


He said no ransom was paid.

His words, “The abducted Commissioner was released around 6pm today; he has been reunited with his family.”

“Based on credible information, we gathered that the kidnappers took the commissioner to Tawa-Gali area around Mada station in Nasarawa Eggon LGA, so we mobilised our men to go after them.

“On getting there, we mounted pressure on them, so they had to leave the commissioner there and ran away.

“No ransom was paid. For now, none of the kidnappers has been arrested but we are working round the clock to get them arrested.”

He, however, urged members of the public to continue to help the police with useful information, adding that this would go a long way in assisting the command to serve residents of the state better.

However, a source from the family confided in our correspondent that N30 million was paid before the commissioner was released.

The kidnappers had demanded N100 million ransom
