‘The music enough, I’m giving you 5 minutes’, Remi Tinubu tells Governor at public event

First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had a brief confrontation on Sunday in Ile-Ife during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where she received the chieftaincy title of Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua.

The ceremony drew national figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, sitting and former governors, senators and prominent traditional rulers.

Trouble began when Governor Adeleke mounted the podium to deliver his remarks. True to his trademark style, he danced for a few seconds and then began singing.

The First Lady approached him, telling him: “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.”

Adeleke continued singing, prompting Mrs. Tinubu to return and warn: “I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.”

Video clips of the encounter have since circulated widely on social media.

The incident comes as Adeleke, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last month, continues searching for a new political platform ahead of his second-term bid.

In his November 4, 2025 resignation letter to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, he cited internal party crises as his reason for leaving.

On December 2, Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Speaking after receiving her chieftaincy title, Senator Tinubu declared that Nigeria’s economic trajectory from next year would be “unstoppable.”

“By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity. Other countries will come and borrow money from us. Those wondering how we will do it, we will show them,” she said, adding that the Tinubu administration would exceed expectations.

The First Lady also expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the honour, noting that it marked her return to major public events, her last significant social outing being her 50th birthday celebration.
