Suspected Kidnapper arrested with 5 abducted Children, says this is his fist time

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended one Promise Boniface for allegedly abducting five children from a family in Obio Ibiono Local Government Area of the State.

Boniface, along with other suspects arrested for various crimes, was paraded yesterday at the State Police Command headquarters in Uyo.

The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed that the children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents. Boniface was captured after a dramatic pursuit involving local villagers and police officers.

The motorcycle used during the crime was also recovered.

When questioned, Boniface explained that he had found the children stranded in the rain and took them out of a sense of compassion. He admitted, “It is my first time doing something like this, and it was the circumstances that led me to it.”

In another incident on November 27, 2024, police operatives engaged a group of armed men attempting to kidnap a man along the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Highway.

A gunfight ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect, while others managed to escape on a motorcycle. Authorities recovered a cut-to-size AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and suspected charms from the scene.

Following a tip-off, police also raided an illegal gun-making factory, where firearms were being produced and sold to criminals.

One suspect, identified as David Nse Emmanuel, was arrested, but other family members involved in the operation fled. Authorities recovered several weapons, including seven single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a steel double-trigger pistol, and materials used in firearm fabrication.

The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and trace the buyers of the illegal firearms.

Additionally, several suspects were paraded for various crimes, including armed robbery and vehicle theft. They include:

Joshua Linus, Isaac Archibong, and Christian Archibong were arrested for robbing a POS operator and stealing business money and valuables.

A five-man gang in Aba, Abia State, was arrested for hijacking a black Toyota Camry. Police recovered three locally made pistols and charms.

Kingsley Ernest Nelson, a repeat offender, was caught with stolen vehicles and fake car documents. The recovered vehicles included a black Toyota Corolla (registration ETN 674AA), a Toyota Sienna (registration DUU 692NZ), and a Toyota Rav4 (registration ETN 676AA).

Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo reiterated the Command’s dedication to fighting crime, ensuring Akwa Ibom remains one of Nigeria’s safest states.

“We will continue to safeguard lives and property, and ensure the safety of all citizens and residents,” he assured.

Investigations are ongoing into all cases, and the suspects will face charges in court.
