Stolen RAV4 Jeep, 5 AK-49 rifles, 3 locally made guns, ammunition retrieved as Police tight noose on criminals

Police operatives attached to the Delta State Police Command has apprehended some suspected armed robbers, cultists and drug barons at different locations in the Delta Stats.

The Police CRIMECHANNELS learnt, also recovered a stolen RAV4 Jeep, 5 AK-49 rifles, 3 locally made guns and several ammunition from the some of the suspects upon arrest.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Delta, DSP Edafe Bright, made the disclosure in a statement he issued on Saturday, July 24.

His statement reads, “on July 23, at about 9:30am, the DPO of Sapele Division, CSP Harrison Nwabuisi led a team of crack squad attached to the division and stormed the Ugbeyiyi area of Sapele after he received a distress call from a resident of a suspected armed robber wandering in the area.”

“They saw the suspect wrapped an object in a caftan long gown, on sighting the police he took to his hills. He was chased that night into a nearby bush, he dropped the wrapped object he was carrying and escaped.”


“When the wrapped object was uncovered, one Ak 49 rifle with breach number 06957 with one live ammunition was recovered. The rifle was without a magazine but had already been corked as the ammunition was in the chamber.”

Speaking further, the Police PPRO said that on July 22, a combined team of Police and local vigilante members, acting on credible information that a gang of 4 armed robbers were operating around Eku.

He said that the security team stormed the area and upon the armed robbers sighting them, opened fire on them, with the team returning the fire back.

He said that after the gun battle had ended, 3 of the armed robbers were injured as a result of gunshots. He said that they were sent to the Hospital, but that they died after few minutes.

He said that the Police recovered one cut to size single barrel gun, 5 live cartridges, 11 android phones and one laptop from the deceased armed robber suspects.
