Security Guard killed, as armed Men set Petrol Station on fire

A security guard who was identified as Sunday, was killed at the Titolu Venture Filling Station in Igoba, Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.

His attackers set the gas station ablaze before fleeing. The deceased guard was reportedly tied before being shot.

Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, the station manager, said he was notified about the fire around 4 a.m.


According to him, “At about 4am, I was called by one of the residents, and on getting here, we saw the station burning; we called the fire service and they came to quench the fire, not knowing the perpetrators had killed our security guard.

“While trying to figure out what could have caused the fire, we saw where the guard was tied and killed. We also saw the keg used by the arsonist filled with petrol which part of it must have been used to wet the station before setting it on fire.”
Meanwhile, detectives from the Ondo police command who had arrived at the scene had taken the guard’s body to the mortuary.

Mrs Funmi Odunlami, a spokesperson for the state Police Command, confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances.
