Revealed: Total number of Nigerians that will be paid N20,000- FG
Sequel to the questions asked by some Nigerians on the method devised by the federal government to identify vulnerable Nigerian households and the number of the vulnerable households that would benefit from the #20,000 palliative, the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) has made some clarifications that just one million vulnerable households would get the money to cushion the impact of the lockdown as ordered by the federal government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Speaking on the matter, the National Coordinator, National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), Lonwa Apera said that efforts have been put in place before now by the federal government in conjunction with the state government to get the NSR of the vulnerable households in the 35 states and the federal capital territory besides Ogun State.
He added that the cash transfer, which was kick-started by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs was for the existing beneficiaries not all Nigerians as some reports have been claiming.
Apara added that “At the moment, the cash transfer is paying one million poor and vulnerable households. We plan to rapidly increase this number to two million in the next payment round in May.”
According to him, the register is been used by the federal government to provide food rations to those who are not on the cash transfer but have children of school age. He also added that efforts would be made to include the urban poor in the register, which would make it rise to 4 million households come June 2020.
