Retired Police DSP gets N1.7m gratuity after 35 years in Service while Senator collects N29m per month
Prominent activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed outrage over reports that retired Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are allegedly receiving a meager N1.7 million as gratuity.
The controversy stems from a viral video shared by retired DSP Esther Marcus, who claimed that after serving the Nigeria Police Force for 35 years, she was only granted N1.7 million as her gratuity.
In the video, Esther, who stated that she retired in 2018, also revealed that she now receives a monthly pension of just N40,000.
Reacting to the shocking revelation, Sowore took to his social media platform to voice his dismay. He criticized the Nigerian government for what he described as its continuous mistreatment of its workers. “Nigeria does nothing but evil to its workers,” Sowore lamented, calling the situation a “sad reality.”
In his post, Sowore further pointed out the stark contrast between the meager payouts for Nigerian workers and the lavish entitlements of politicians.
He remarked that while a Nigerian senator receives a staggering N29 million per month, workers like Esther Marcus are left to struggle with paltry benefits.
He wrote, “How on earth is anyone who worked for 35 years paid N1.7m ($1,100) as gratuity?
“This is a retired DSP of @policeng speaking about her pension and gratuity after retiring from the Nigerian Police Farce. This is so sad!
“It is the same country where a senator takes home N29 million per month, but the irony is that these @policeng officers will kill you in a heartbeat for fighting the system that oppresses us all!”
