President Tinubu’s Political Adviser resigns from office

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has stepped down from his position as political adviser to President Bola Tinubu.

Sources within the presidency confirmed on Thursday that Baba-Ahmed submitted his resignation about two weeks ago, though the specific reasons for his decision remain unclear.

He cited “personal grounds” for his departure but provided no further details.

It is still unknown whether the presidency has formally accepted his resignation.

Baba-Ahmed had been appointed as Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of Vice President Kashim Shettima in September 2023.

During his tenure, his role in the administration occasionally sparked controversy, notably drawing criticism from Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Matawalle had previously made comments suggesting northern appointees, including Baba-Ahmed, should speak out against any misrepresentation or intimidation of the Tinubu government.

This remark followed Baba-Ahmed’s sharp criticism of Matawalle’s dismissal of the NEF as a “political paperweight,” after the forum expressed regret over the North’s support for Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
