Police commence investigation as Cult’s supremacy clash claims four Residents lives

The Police Command in Anambra has begun investigation to track down suspected cultists behind the fatal attack on four persons allegedly of a rival group in the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Monday in Awka.

Ikenga said that the cult clash which occurred in Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha-Awka Old Road on Sunday resulted in the death of four persons.

“The Anambra Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of December 7 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha-Awka Old Road.
“Despite proactive efforts by the Command operatives, some members of the same gang, on the evening of December 7, operating in a black Lexus Jeep with registration number yet unknown, stormed Afor Nawfia Market and opened fire indiscriminately.

“The violent attack resulted in the fatal injury of four persons, after which the assailants fled the scene,” he said.
He said although the hoodlums escaped before police arrival, preliminary information obtained at the scene has provided useful leads to track down the suspects.
“The Command is already acting on the information to ensure the perpetrators are tracked down and arrested,” he said.
The police spokesperson said that the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the state of cultism, violent crime, and all forms of criminality.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that operatives of the Command had on Dec. 4 arrested two suspected cultists with a gun.
They were suspected to be planning a rival cult confrontation in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. (NAN)
