President Tinubu still Nigeria’s most formidable political force — Alaafin of Oyo

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s most formidable political force, citing his enduring influence and expansive network as unmatched in the Fourth Republic.

In a congratulatory message marking Tinubu’s 74th birthday, conveyed through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch portrayed the President as a defining figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, whose impact has remained consistent despite shifting alliances over the years.

The Alaafin said Tinubu’s political journey reflects a rare blend of resilience, strategy, and long-term vision, noting that his continued relevance over decades sets him apart in the country’s democratic evolution.

“Tinubu is not flawless, and he might not be universally loved. But his political story is a phenomenon worth studying.”

“In a democracy where many fade after one term, he has remained relevant for a quarter of a century. That endurance is no accident. It is proof that leadership, when matched with vision and structure, can outlast storms.“

He further noted that the President’s trajectory offers lessons in political organisation and loyalty, describing his legacy as one built on enduring structures rather than fleeting influence.

“President Tinubu’s story is not just political history; it is a study in structure, loyalty, and resilience.“

“In a Fourth Republic where many political ‘giants’ rose and fell quickly, Tinubu has been the constant more like the builder whose network has outlived terms, quarrels, and federal pressure.”

Reflecting on Tinubu’s career from his tenure as Governor of Lagos State and Senator representing Lagos West to his emergence as Nigeria’s 16th President in 2023 the monarch commended his reform driven approach to governance.

According to him, the administration’s policies aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline, boosting revenue, reducing debt servicing, and improving infrastructure demonstrate a commitment to economic stability.

“He is indeed an audacious, visionary leader and a statesman reputed for his commitment to democracy, having championed democratic ideals throughout his career, from his activism against military rule to his current presidency,” Oba Owoade added.

The traditional ruler also expressed optimism about the President’s policy direction, saying his administration’s agenda holds the potential to redefine Nigeria’s global standing.

“As the President marks this milestone, his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda will reshape Nigeria’s global identity and set the nation on a steady path to prosperity.”
