Probe begins as Policeman, Agric Commissioner flog people in viral video

The Nigeria Police Force said it has began investigation into a viral video where the Borno State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Bukar Talba, was seen allegedly flogging some persons during the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives in the state.

The Nigeria Police Complaint Response Unit disclosed this information on popular social media app, Twitter on Sunday when it was made aware of the video by an online news channel, Sahara Reporters.

The police tweeted, “Your complaint is hereby acknowledged and investigation has been initiated. Your Tracking Number is CRU675178.”

The 35 seconds video showed a policeman flogging some women to take their seat as they await the distribution of relief materials from Government officials.


In the video, Talba, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, at some point took the cane from the Policeman and started flogging the women so as to ensure order and compliance.

When contacted by on the matter, Talba, said they were “small girls” and not women as the general public had thought.

He said, “Honestly, the Director of press has already taken care of it. Maybe you can call him. I have already replied to them about what really happened. Maybe I will tell him to call you, because it (the occasion) is for adults and we were separating the young girls. Somebody wants to blackmail me. If you see the pictures, they show small girls. But whatever you do, somebody has to say something. I am in Chibok now. He will call you.”
