Police recover four dead bodies of notorious Cult members Following supremacy clash

The Anambra Police Command has reported the recovery of four bodies of known cult members in the Nawfia community, located in the Njikoka local government area.

This information was shared by Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement issued from Awka on Monday.

According to Ikenga, officers from the Nimo Police Station responded to a distress call about a suspected cult clash on October 6, 2024, at 8:25 PM in Umuka, Nawfia. Upon arrival, they discovered four young men lying in a pool of blood with suspected multiple gunshot wounds.

A doctor confirmed their deaths, and the bodies have since been taken to the morgue.

The victims were identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior A.K.A. A Starboy, Aniemena A.K.A. Osama, and Ahmed Auwal.

Eyewitnesses reported that these individuals were notorious for their criminal activities and had ongoing rivalries with another cult group in the area.

In response to these events, joint patrols with the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) have been increased in the vicinity. Additionally, police operatives thwarted a kidnapping attempt involving a foreigner by suspected armed secessionists in Ogbunka village, Orumba South Local Government Area.

During the ensuing gunfight, two police officers were injured but successfully rescued the victim. Both officers are now stable and receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has initiated an investigation into the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl, identified as Chinasa Adigwe from Umueje village.

Her body was discovered on October 6, 2024, in a bush at Omasi village, with evidence suggesting she had been mutilated. The body has been retrieved and sent to the morgue.

The Commissioner expressed condolences to the family and community of the deceased, assuring that the police will work diligently to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.
