Police organise training seminar for Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, others

The Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with Fimihan Adeoye Security Consult, has held a three-day training seminar aimed at equipping Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders with enhanced leadership and operational skills.

Held at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the seminar was themed “Building Capacity for Effective Superintending” and focused on improving policing strategies and service delivery across the state.

In his address to participants, the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, highlighted the importance of ongoing professional development, stressing that continuous training is essential for effective and responsive policing in today’s dynamic security environment.

He stressed that staying updated is essential for maintaining relevance and effectiveness in law enforcement.

Adenola added that the initiative reflects the broader vision of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who has prioritised training as a key element of police reform and professional advancement.

He said, “The essence of the training was to improve the service delivery of our men because we believe that with better knowledge, they will perform better.”

He noted that the training will talk about use of firearms, basic Police duty, the interagency synergy, investigation processes, and investigation report writing among others.

He however said Nigerians, particularly people in the state at the end of the training should expect professionalism and improved Police training.

“As you can see, the men receiving this training are not the men on the road. We have their commanders, the DPOs, the head of tactical teams.

“But it is a sort of train-the-trainer. We expect that when they leave here, they will go and cascade that training to the men working under them. So essentially, it will ultimately get to the boys and the expectation is improved service delivery.”
