Police clear air over reports of curfew, movement restrictions in Oyo State

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that a curfew or movement restriction has been imposed in Ibadan and other parts of the state.

The command described the reports as false and misleading, assuring residents that there is no security situation warranting panic.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said there were no restrictions on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan.

According to the statement, adequate security measures have already been put in place across the state, with police officers and other operatives strategically deployed to maintain law and order.

The command urged residents to remain calm and continue their normal activities without fear.

It also warned against the spread of rumours and unverified information capable of causing anxiety among members of the public.

The police said individuals found circulating false information would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The statement further noted that any official security directive or emergency measure would only be communicated through the office of the Police Public Relations Officer and other verified official communication channels.

The command appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and supportive of security agencies in efforts to sustain peace and public safety across Oyo State.

The police also provided emergency contact lines for residents, including the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free number, 615, as well as the command control room lines: 08081768614 and 07055495413.
