Police Arrest Anthony Joshua’s Driver after Ogun accident

Police have arrested the driver involved in the road crash that claimed the lives of two associates of former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

He said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Joshua, who sustained injuries in the crash, was discharged late Wednesday night from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, after medical personnel certified him fit to continue his recovery at home.

The accident occurred on Monday when a Lexus SUV transporting Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck along the busy expressway.

Two members of Joshua’s entourage his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the collision.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), five adult males were involved in the crash. The agency reported two fatalities, one injured person, and two others who escaped without injuries.

FRSC officials attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed and improper overtaking, noting that both remain major contributors to fatal road crashes on highways across the country.

In a terse statement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) page, Babaseyi on Thursday said, “The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing.”
