Peter Obi’s popularity influence Is dwindling – Lagos Labour Party laments

The chairperson of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Dayo Ekong, has revealed that the political influence of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is weakening.

In a statement on her official X account, Ekong urged Obi to “pause and reflect.”

Ekong stated that Obi’s popularity during the 2023 election was not solely due to his persona but was a result of the party’s structure, grassroots organising, and the public’s desire for change.

She argued that the “grace” that once favored him is now “fading” due to what she calls his “divisive choices and inconsistent political moves.”

She wrote, “In 2023, Nigerians rallied behind him because he represented a fresh alternative. But today, his actions are beginning to erode the foundation of that support.”

As an example, Ekong pointed to the 2024 Edo governorship election, where Obi supported Olumide Akpata, the LP candidate, despite the preferences of other party leaders.
