Pensioners threaten nationwide n3ked protest over unpaid allowances increments,

The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened to stage a nationwide naked protest on October 6 if the government does not fulfill its promise to implement pension increments and palliatives.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday in Lagos, the National Chairman of the coalition, Mukaila Ogunbote, said pensioners had issued a deadline, giving the government until the end of September to clear arrears, increments, and palliatives.

According to Ogunbote, failure to act within the stipulated time would leave pensioners with no alternative but to hold a nationwide naked protest on October 6.

He explained that the demonstration was intended to “symbolically expose government failures and highlight pensioners’ grievances before the public.”

He pointed out that back in October 2023, President Bola Tinubu approved N35,000 for workers and N25,000 for pensioners as palliatives, but those promises remain unfulfilled.

“When we enquired, we were told our N32,000 increment was omitted from both the 2024 and 2025 budgets. This is injustice,” Ogunbote said.
