A perceived pastor and a woman reportedly married were publicly humiliated in the Iguomon community, near Benin City, Edo State, following allegations of infidelity.
A disturbing video that surfaced online on Monday captured the moment the pair were stripped and taunted by a mob.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was accused of engaging in an affair with the woman and was caught in a compromising situation.
Reports indicate that a group of angry youths dragged the man out of a residence, stripped him naked, and forced him to sit on the ground. The woman was also dragged out, mocked, and later stripped by a female member of the crowd.
The incident drew a large crowd, with many bystanders recording the scene on their phones.
Reacting to the viral footage, human rights activist Marxist Kola Edokpayi, of the Talakawa Parliament, condemned the mob action and warned against the dangers of jungle justice.
“We condemn jungle justice in its entirety. What the people did in that community cannot be justified. The matter should have been reported to the police who will take appropriate action,” Edokpayi said.
