Our Petrol price per litre is not higher — Dangote Refinery cries out

Dangote Refinery has categorically debunked claims asserting that it is selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at prices between N1,015 and N1,028 per litre, labeling the reports as false.

Recently, oil marketers reported that the price of petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery was within that range, suggesting that importing petrol could be more cost-effective given that the international landing cost was pegged at N978.01 per litre as of October 31, 2024.

In response, Tony Chiejina, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Group, firmly dismissed these allegations, branding them as ‘fake news.’

According to figures released by the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria on Thursday, the landing cost for diesel stood at N1,069.97 per litre, while aviation fuel was reported at N1,119.67 per litre.

An anonymous oil marketer noted that the refinery is currently offering petrol at N1,015 per litre for bulk purchases, while smaller buyers are charged N1,028 per litre.

“Dangote is selling to bulk buyers at N1,015/litre, but for those purchasing smaller quantities, the price is N1,028/litre,” the marketer stated.

However, Dr. Joseph Obele, Publicity Secretary of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), suggested that Dangote’s prices might be higher due to the refinery processing imported crude oil.
