“One-Chance” syndicate smashed as Police foil armed robbery, attempted Kidnapping

Authorities from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended four individuals connected to a violent “one-chance” robbery and an attempted kidnapping incident in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed details of the operation.

According to her, the Life Camp Police Station received an urgent distress call on October 8 from a woman claiming she had been abducted.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of “N1,000,000 for her release.”

Responding swiftly, officers assigned to the Life Camp Division launched an operation to locate the perpetrators.

“Through the deployment of digital and tactical intelligence, on 9th October, the suspects were arrested at Dape Village after a near-deadly confrontation with the police,” she stated.

“Two victims were rescued during the operation.”

Unfortunately, one of the rescued individuals suffered severe injuries during the ordeal.

“However, one of them, who sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by the suspects, was promptly rushed to Gwarinpa General Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment,” the statement added.

The four arrested suspects were identified as Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere.

SP Adeh disclosed that investigations revealed the gang’s involvement in a string of “one-chance” robberies targeting passengers in the Bannex and Kado areas.

According to her, the group had been luring unsuspecting victims into a vehicle with dark-tinted windows.

“The suspects… confessed to have been using a vehicle with tinted windows to deceive unsuspecting passengers.”

Police recovered various items from the suspects during the arrest, including 15 international passports, four mobile phones, two sharp daggers, two cutlasses, two hammers, three biros, and several bloodstained documents.

SP Adeh confirmed that “the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”
