Nigerian Senator reportedly dies in the United Kingdom
Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represented Enugu North in the National Assembly, has died.
The news of his passing was confirmed on Wednesday by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central through a post on her verified Facebook page.
In her tribute, Akpoti-Uduaghan described Ezea as a good, wise, and gentle man.
She wrote, “Rest in peace Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea. You were a good man! Wise and gentle.
“Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers.
“Enugu North Senatorial District, Kogi Central honors your Senator and mourns with you.”
Ezea who was given birth to on 11 August 1963 to the family of Late Chief James Ezea of Itchi, Igbo-Eze South, and Mrs. Theresa Ezea of Nsukka Urban, Senator Ezea built a notable career in politics and public service.
He was one of the founding figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State in 2013 and later emerged as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 election.
Ezea was appointed chairman of the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, in 2018, a role he held until 2022 when he resigned to join the Labour Party.
That same year, he secured the party’s senatorial ticket and was elected Senator for Enugu North in the 25 February 2023 general election.
